About SVC.

The Science Volunteer Corps (SVC) Sub-committee is a student-led committee that aims to promote volunteerism among Science students. The committee strives to do so by serving as an easily accessible platform for Science students to volunteer through various programmes with our beneficiaries. SVC organises regular volunteering programmes as well as ad-hoc events to cater to the needs of our beneficiaries. Follow us @nussciencevolunteercorps

Our Events

YWCA Regular Sessions

Young Women Christian Association (YWCA) is one of SVC’s community partners. In our partnership with YWCA, SVC conducts bi-weekly Science mentorship sessions for children under their Kids Weekday Care Programme. Through exciting hands-on experiments and interactive games, SVC hopes to broaden the children’s scientific knowledge and spark their interest in the Sciences.

Little MARCHallers

Little MARCHallers is a half-day camp for children under the SVC-YWCA Mentorship Programme. It is traditionally held during the March Holidays. Through a series of exciting team games and an interactive story plot, children will get to have brand new experiences with various scientific concepts as SVC brings these concepts to life.

Golden Years

Golden Years is an event organised for the elderly to celebrate the Lunar New Year. This year, we will be partnering with our new community partner, SASCO Senior Citizens’ Home to carry out this event. This event allows the elderly to mingle with one another and make new friends while participating in various activities and games facilitated by volunteers. There will be many chinese new year themed activities such as lion dance and calligraphy for participants to take part in and we hope that through this festive occasion, we can encourage the spirit of volunteering among science students while bringing about a smile on the faces of the elderly.

Super JUNE-iors

Super JUNE-iors is a half-day learning journey for children under the SVC-YWCA Mentorship Programme during the June holidays. This event allows students to learn about Science outside their classrooms in a fun manner, by taking them to places with educational value. Approaching learning from a different angle, allows the experience to be more memorable and enjoyable for the children.

SASCO Regular Sessions

SASCO Senior Citizens’ Home is a new community partner of SVC helping the destitute elderly in Singapore. In our partnership with SASCO, SVC conducts regular sessions over the course of the semester. Enjoyable and meaningful activities are held during these sessions for the volunteers and seniors to participate in and this year, we are looking towards the theme of “A trip down memory lane”. We hope that through this, the elderly can reminisce on their past while forging new memories.

KayakClean

KayakClean is a new initiative which aimed to raise awareness of the importance of taking care of our waterways in Singapore. In the past AY, SVC collaborated with Waterways Watch Society (WWS) to host a kayaking clean-up session along Marina Reservoir where volunteers could play their part by picking up litter while kayaking. This provided a different volunteering opportunity for science students to explore while achieving personal growth as they began their journey in taking care of the environment.
